​Crime Stoppers seeks recovery of Thompson gun

The theft of a Thompson submachine gun from a Great Bend residence has Crime Stoppers asking the public for information. Police Chief Dean Akings reports the gun, valued at $1,700, was stolen sometime between 4 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 5:11 p.m. on the 28th, from a home at 2821 16th St. "This .45 caliber automatic machine gun was a model T1SB with serial number KH2157," Akings said. Sunflower Early Education screening

Sunflower Early Education will hold a free developmental screening open to all children from birth through 2 years and 10 months from 8 a.m. to noon on July 13, at the Sunflower Early Education Center, 1312 Patton Road. ST. JOHN - Audrey Faye (Shepherd) Nusser died on July 5, 2015, at her home in St. John. Born June 14, 1938, in Sylvia, she was the daughter of James and Mildred Shepherd. She was a resident of St. John since 1968 having worked for First National Bank in St. John for 30 years. On June 16, 1956, she married Lee Eldon Nusser in Sylvia. He preceded her in death in 2003.

Great Bend Rec extending dates for Hap Dumont

The Great Bend Rec center will be extending the dates for this year's Hap Dumont 11U State Tournament. "We are extending the dates to begin this Friday due to the number of teams that have registered," said Christina Hayes, community development coordinator for the City of Great Bend. Great Bend volleyball wins summer league tour

The GBHS varsity volleyball team won first place in the Barton Summer League tournament defeating Central Plains in the championship. The team will head to the University of Colorado Team Camp at Boulder July 16-18th. The Great Bend JV finished in second place in their tournament.
