Fund Raiser for Claflin Lions Club

The Claflin Lions Club Annual Seafood Buffet will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on March 16 at the Catholic Church Parish Hall. Curves 14th Annual Food Drive

On Dec. 11, 2011 Katie Taylor, Miss Southern Johnson County Teen, was crowned Miss Kansas Teen USA 2012 in Wichita at the Historic Scottish Rite Temple. Katie was born in Shawnee Mission, and has been raised in Olathe by her parents Daniel and Stacey (Brown) Taylor. She is a Senior at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park. Her grandparents are Charles and Jan Brown of Great Bend and Marvin Taylor of Hoxie and the late Kathleen Taylor.

Parnassus Club annual piano and voice scholarship auditions

On March 3rd, 21 middle school and high school music students participated in the Parnassus Club annual piano and voice scholarship auditions held in the Barton Community College Fine Arts building. The auditions are open to any 14 through 18 year old studying piano or voice in Barton County. The senior piano scholarship awards include: First Place, Taylor Fry, Second Place, Hanna Wilborn, Third Place, Hannah Mosier with one Merit Award in the Junior Piano Division given to Taylor Huslig. Zeta Gamma Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha met for a special dinner at the Elks Lodge in Great Bend on Feb. 25 to honor the chapter's Outstanding Sister for the year, Jeanette Shirer. She was presented with a gift and an Outstanding Sister charm. Jeanette fIrst joined Alpha Tau Chapter in Hoisington in 1952. She went inactive for a period of time to raise her children and to help her husband with his work. Barton Natural Gas student James Mayes, 29, is knee-deep in his coursework to become a member of the natural gas industry, but he has always had the desire to be on stage. He found a way to do both and is a cast-member for the upcoming Barton Community College Theatre Spring Musical "Godspell," which opens Thursday at the college's Fine Arts Auditorium. The musical is at 7:30 p.m. March 5, 6, 7 and at 2 p.m. March 8.

LaVerna C. Moore, 80, died Feb. 26, 2015, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 11, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of G.F. and Christina (Cook) Ohnmacht. Originally from Olmitz, she married Walter B. Moore Jr. on Sept. 8, 1956, at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, Chicago, Ill. He died Oct. 17, 2002. A Great Bend resident since 1991, returning from Chicago, she was a homemaker.

Vicky Boger Trivett 1938 - 2015

SARASOTA, Fla. - Vicky Boger Trivett, 76, died on Feb. 21, 2015. Born May 17, 1938, in Ulm, Germany, she was the daughter of Fredrich and Rosa Bauder. On April 27, 1960, she married Richard Dean Boger in Columbus, Ga. The couple resided in Great Bend from 1960 to 1974, before moving to Ellinwood from 1974-2002. They owned Boger Pharmacy in Ellinwood and Boger Gift Gallery in Great Bend. On April 19, 2002, Richard passed away. On Oct. 3, 2003, Vicky married Preston Trivett. The couple resided in Sarasota, Fla.
