Darlene Ramona Cline, 81, died Nov. 29 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 7, 1931 at Sawyer, she was the daughter of Henry and Edith (Greenstreet) Powers.

Ada O. (Brown) Harmon, 1914-2012

HAYS- Ada O. (Brown) Harmon, 98, died Dec. 1 in Hays. Survivors include son Roger Harmon of Round Rock, TX; daughter RoAnn Blauer of Hays; sister Elsie Staatz of Junction City; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Harmon in 1997.

GBHS students place at math relays

Great Bend High School was represented by 17 scholars at the Fort Hays State University Math Relays on Thursday, November 8th. In all there were 681 participants and 48 schools represented at this annual event. GBHS placed 6th overall out of ten teams in the 4A/5A/6A school category.

BCC raises funds to help wounded soldiers overseas

Imagine a family member was injured overseas while serving in the Army and had to be hospitalized. The costs to be by their bedside would make it fiscally impossible for most people to be able to be there for their loved one, but this obstacle has been shattered with the help of the Fisher House Foundation, an organization that the faculty and staff of Barton Community College have been supporting over the last decade.

24-hour daycare now open

A 24-hour childcare center in Great Bend celebrated its grand opening Friday with a Chamber ribbon cutting, and owner Erika Julian hopes to reach out to area employers as she grows her new business. All The Little Children, currently located at 1416 Broadway in Great Bend, is the only 24-hour licensed daycare in the area. "Businesses who employ evening and overnight help often struggle with high turnover because their staff can't find reliable childcare," Julian said. Central Kansas Christian Academy's children will visit Heartland Cancer Center, 204 Cleveland St., on Tuesday, Dec. 4, to sing Christmas carols for patients, staff and visitors.
