HOISINGTON - Phyllis Y. Nulton, 80, died March 23 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Jan. 12, 1932, at McAllen, Texas, the daughter of Pierce and Gertrude (Phillips) Wikoff. She married Tom Nulton on Oct. 21, 1951, at Hays. She worked in retail sales for Ann's Dress Shop in Hays and Verna's in Hoisington, and as an office manager for over 25 years at State Farm Insurance, Hoisington. She had been a Hoisington resident since 1967, coming from Hays.

ELLINWOOD - Norbert Luebbers, 86, died March 24 in Ellinwood. He was born April 24, 1926, is rural Barton County, the son of Henry and Josiphine Straub Luebbers. He married Anna Lee Kawasky Luebbers. An Ellinwood resident, he had worked as a pulling unit operator for Steven's Well Service until his retirement in 1988.
Barton County resident Richard W. Unrein announced his intention to file for the Republican nomination for Barton County Sheriff. Unrein said he would bring his law enforcement, management and leadership experience to the Sheriff's Office. His focus would be to provide service, cooperation, communication and protection to the citizens of Barton County.

USD Board of Education will meet at noon on Tuesday at Lincoln Elementary School, 5630 Broadway. Items on the agenda include a list of maintenance and grounds activities projects proposed for summer 2012. Lincoln Principal Laura Blevins and other staff members will share information regarding the academic programs and the school improvement efforts at Lincoln Elementary School.
Bobby Joe Mead, 78, died May 4, 2015, at Hays Medical Center in Hays. Born Sept. 18, 1936, in Fredonia, he was the son of E.O. and Aldine LaRue (Randall) Mead. Bob married Carole Annette Cronenberg on Sept. 18, 1955, in Great Bend. She died on July 1, 2002.
The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team competed at the KSHSAA 2A State Championships on Saturday, May 2 at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita. The team placed seventh out of 42 schools participating.
Monday May 4, Hoisington Ambulance Service gave a 9-1-1 presentation informing the students important facts relating when and how to call 9-1-1. Following the presentation, the students got to tour the ambulance.
Twenty-two Hoisington students, ranging in age from Kindergarten through sixth grade, participated in a two-weekend program courtesy of the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce retail promotions committee. On Saturday, April 25, they attended Business Basics, where they learned how to run a basic entrepreneurial business and chose a product to bring to market. Then, on Saturday May 2, with products prepared, they attended Market Day. Creativity was at an all time high with their business ideas, with items at Market Day ranging from snacks for people, birds and dogs, arts and crafts, graduation themed goodies and surprise eggs!
This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Great Bend Community Theatre, 1905 Lakin (Crest Theatre), at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Host will be Aaron Andrews with greeters Pete Schartz and Shawn Panzer. Coffee, refreshments and door prizes will be available.
