Friends of the Great Bend Public Library will be holding their annual Used Book Sale the third week in October. Donations of books to the sale from the public will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 30. The library is located at 1409 Williams in Great Bend. Donated books can be brought to the library's service entrance off Stone Street or to the circulation desk.

ELLINWOOD - Harold Edward Boepple, 70 died Sept. 19 at St. Francis Via Christi Hospital in Wichita. He was born Oct. 29, 1940 in Great Bend, the son of Ed and Dorothy Roelse Boepple. A lifetime Ellinwood resident, he was an oilfield worker at Weatherford Services, retiring in 1998. He graduated in 1959 from Ellinwood High School. He was also co-owner of G&H Insurance in Great Bend.
Gladys M. Bloodworth, 92, died Sept. 19 at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend. Born June 18, 1919 in Carmi, Ill., she was the daughter of Daniel and Minnie A. (Argo) Hucker. On March 28, 1937, she married Orval R. Bloodworth in Carmi, Ill. He died on July 27, 1978. A resident of Great Bend since 1952, she was a seamstress at Marlett Homes, retiring in 1980.
CLAFLIN - Albert H. Soeken, 96, died Sept. 17 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Dec. 19, 1914 in Barton County, he was the son of Henry and Anna (Lubinus) Soeken. On May 7, 1941, he married Viola Knop in Ellinwood. She died in September, 1999. A lifetime resident of Claflin, he was a farmer. He was a Dekalb seed dealer.
ESTES PARK, Colo. - A graveside service will be held for former resident Jerri Robinson who died on May 20 in Estes Park, Colo. The service will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Great Bend. In the event of inclement weather, the service will take place at First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Estes Valley in care of the funeral home.
DIGHTON - Beverly Ann Moomaw, 73, died Sept. 16 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus in Wichita. Born Jan. 1, 1938 in Meade, she was the daughter of Berend H. and Hazel Ruby (Hill) Cordes. In 1956, she graduated from Meade High School and attended Emporia State University for one year. She transferred to Fort Hays State University for a year before her marriage. On June 7, 1958 she married Max Moomaw in Meade. An appearance by guest speaker Kris Munsch Wednesday at St. Rose Ambulatory in Great Bend will feature a birdhouse-building project for people who are interested. It costs $30 to build a cardboard birdhouse and $40 for a wooden birdhouse, but people must bring their own hammer. Other building materials are provided.
Roosevelt Elementary School students in Hoisington are selling trash bags, which has been their fundraiser for the last 10 years. The bags come in three sizes: 55 gallon, 39 gallon, and 15 gallon. Students will be selling trash bags until Sept. 22. If you would like to purchase trash bags and no one has contacted you, orders can be taken at Roosevelt Elementary at 620-653-4470. Proceeds are used to fund activities for the students at Roosevelt.

Born in Hays on June 3, 1938, she was the daughter of Nick and Catherine (Stecklein) Wasinger, the younger of two children, and was baptized Jeanette Mae. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, on Sept. 8, 1957. On March 18, 1958, Jeanette received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Joseph Andre.
