Welcome to another edition of Marsh Musings. I don't think anyone who keeps up with the weather forecast for Barton County would have expected all of the snow we received at the Bottoms this past week. Snow this week in Barton County? Wondering if Doc and I have finally lost it? Sure, we did not get any snow in the form of precipitation, but we did get a lot of snow in the form of owls. Snowy owls that is!

Diaz named Rosewood's Shining Star of 2012

Vanessa Diaz edged out two of her co-workers to earn the "Shining Star of the Year" award from Rosewood Services Inc. for 2011. Also awarded as honorable-mention selections were employees Erika Julian and Mallory Osuwah.

Karolyn Kaye Coleman 1939 - 2012

WASHINGTON, MO. - Karolyn Kaye Coleman, 72, of Washington, Mo., formerly of Ellis, passed away in the loving arms of God, on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Cedarcrest Manor Nursing Home in Washington, Mo. Born on Aug. 16, 1939, in Emmeram, she was the daughter of Delbert and Beulah (Springfield) Witt. On July 25, 1955 she married Arthur Paul Coleman, in Great Bend. She was a homemaker and a health care provider.

Hubert Rajewski 1917-2012

HAYS -Hubert Rajewski, 94, of Hays, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5 at the Great Bend Health and Rehab Center in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born April 4, 1917 in Vincent, Kansas to Frank and Mary (Wittman) Rajewski. He married Emma Klaus in 1939. He had worked in maintenance and was a farmer.

Great Bend Kids Wrestling competes at Topeka

TOPEKA- Great Bend Kids Wrestling Club traveled to Topeka this weekend to compete in the USAWKS kids state tournament. After a long weekend of wrestling, nine wrestlers brought home awards for placing in the top six in the state. The team placed 13th overall.

​Cheryl Ann Harrell 1946 - 2015

ANDOVER - Cheryl Ann Harrell, 68, entered the arms of her Lord and Savior, March 29, 2015, at Life Care Center of Andover. Born Dec. 14, 1946, in Atchison she was the daughter of Wallace and Verdele Russell. In August 1965, she married the love of her life, Jon. She was a retired office manager for her husband's optometry practice. She worked with Jon in their offices in Larned and Great Bend, building his optometry practice until his death Jan. 1, 2006.

American AgCredit reports increased loan volume in 2014

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - American AgCredit, a farmer-owned financial cooperative, recently announced net income of $98.9 million for the 2014 calendar year along with a cash dividend distribution of $39 million to its shareholders. This compares to net income of $111 million and a cash dividend of $37 million in 2013. American AgCredit has returned over $250 million to its customer-owners since 2005.

BCC to close for Easter break

Barton Community College will be closed on Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6 for Easter break. Barton's Center for Adult Education and Shafer Art Gallery will also be closed. The college's regular class schedule and office hours will resume Tuesday, April 7.
