CLARKSTON, Mich. - Lou Ann (Weeks) Hinze, 56, died Sept. 3 at her residence. Born Oct. 15, 1954 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Glenn E. Weeks and Beulah (Woodyard) Weeks. On June 15, 1984, she married Charles Hinze in Troy, Mich. He survives. A Clarkston, Mich. resident since 1984, she was formerly of Russell County.
EMPORIA - Jerome Joseph Younger, 77, died Sept. 4 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia. Born on Sept. 30, 1933, in Hoisington, he was the son of Martin and Anna (Lauber) Younger. On Sept. 15, 1962, he married Barbara Redman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. She survives at the home. He attended high school at Hoisington High. In 1960, he graduated from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business. A three-judge panel of the Kansas Court of Appeals will hear cases in Great Bend on Sept. 20 as part of Barton County Community College's Constitution Day activities. Oral arguments in two of the cases will be conducted in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Barton Community College and in a third case at the Barton County Courthouse.

The trial dates for Shawn Ney were changed Tuesday to Feb. 27 through March 2, 2012. Last week, the office of Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced a January trial date, but that was changed because the defense counsel had a scheduling conflict. Ney is charged with the first-degree murder of Steven Calderwood, attempted first-degree murder of Sarah Ney, and aggravated burglary, all stemming from events on July 10, 2010, in Barton County.
Gary J. Christiansen, 63, died Sept. 3 at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita. Born Oct. 1, 1947 in Vallejo, Calif., he was the son of Gerald and Nadine (Amerine) Christiansen. On Dec. 1, 1992 he married Judy L. Green in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a self-employed carpet layer.
EUDORA - Jared David Axman, 21, died Sept. 3 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 14, 1990, in Great Bend, he was the son of David A. and Cynthia K. Stricker Axman. In 2011, he graduated from Lawrence Free State High School. Jared had recently become involved with Cottonwood, Inc.

ELLINWOOD – Jerry L. Kaiser, 61, died Sept. 3, 2011, at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood.
Caylee Isern, a licensed cosmetologist and certified massage therapist, has joined the staff at Mane Focus Salon in Ellinwood. Caylee offers haircuts, hair coloring, special occasion hair including up-dos, and waxing. She also offers massage therapy consisting of Swedish, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Prenatal and Hot Stones.
