Arlene K. “Hett” Sittner 1941 - 2011

HUDSON - Arlene K. "Hett" Sittner, 70, died Sunday at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. Born Feb. 27, 1941 at Marion she was the daughter of Homer and Wilma Bowers Hett. She was a graduate of Westmar College and received her master's degree from KSU. She was a home economics teacher and was the church secretary for Peace Church and Trinity Community Church, both of Hudson. She was an active member of the Peace Church. On July 21, 1972 she married Marvin Sittner at Marion.

Residents asked to remove flowers from cemetery

The Great Bend Cemetery staff is preparing for spring clean-up and is asking residents to remove fall flowers by Suday. On Monday staff will have them all collected and either trash them or donate what's usable to the church group that rebuilds them.

Maggie Ann (Diebert) Brown 1932 - 2015

ELLINWOOD - Maggie Ann (Diebert) Brown, 82, died March 1, at her home in Ellinwood of pancreatic cancer. Born April 7, 1932, near Hoxie, she was the daughter of Julius Edwin and Fairy Fay (Barr) Deibert. On June 5, 1949, she married Earl Robert Brown. He died in 1997. She was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper and as a cook at the Alcove Club.

Wanda Jo Simmons 1952-2015

Wanda Jo Simmons, 62, died March 1 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 10, 1952 in Casper, Wyo., she was the daughter of Daisy P. Fortna. Wanda graduated high school in Lenwood, Wash., and then later joined the Army where she served six years followed by six more years in the Army Reserve. An Ellinwood resident since 1982, Wanda married husband Francis Simmons on June 21, 1983 in Ellinwood. Wanda worked at Sterling House in Hutchinson as a CMA and was an avid reader who enjoyed nature and being outdoors.

LEOTI - Frances Marie Thurston, 98, passed away on Feb. 21, at Wichita County Health Center LTCU in Leoti. Born Jan. 7, 1917, in Tribune, she was the daughter of Harold and Marjorie Hoopes Smith. On Jan. 4, 1940, she married Harry Thurston in Tribune. He passed away on Oct. 1, 1989, in Tribune, Kansas. A lifetime resident of Western Kansas, she was a homemaker and a retired Avon representative for over 32 years.
