Grief support group announces new sessions

Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice (GBHH&H) will sponsor a Monday evening grief support group in Great Bend from Sept. 12 through Nov. 14. It will meet each Monday, except Oct. 31, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Thelma Faye Harms Room on the basement level of St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center, 3515 Broadway.

New trial date set for Ney

The trial dates for Shawn Ney were changed Tuesday to Feb. 27 through March 2, 2012. Last week, the office of Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced a January trial date, but that was changed because the defense counsel had a scheduling conflict. Ney is charged with the first-degree murder of Steven Calderwood, attempted first-degree murder of Sarah Ney, and aggravated burglary, all stemming from events on July 10, 2010, in Barton County.

Gary J. Christiansen 1947 - 2011

Gary J. Christiansen, 63, died Sept. 3 at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita. Born Oct. 1, 1947 in Vallejo, Calif., he was the son of Gerald and Nadine (Amerine) Christiansen. On Dec. 1, 1992 he married Judy L. Green in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a self-employed carpet layer.

EUDORA - Jared David Axman, 21, died Sept. 3 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 14, 1990, in Great Bend, he was the son of David A. and Cynthia K. Stricker Axman. In 2011, he graduated from Lawrence Free State High School. Jared had recently become involved with Cottonwood, Inc.

American AgCredit reports increased loan volume in 2014

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - American AgCredit, a farmer-owned financial cooperative, recently announced net income of $98.9 million for the 2014 calendar year along with a cash dividend distribution of $39 million to its shareholders. This compares to net income of $111 million and a cash dividend of $37 million in 2013. American AgCredit has returned over $250 million to its customer-owners since 2005.

​David A. Colyn Jr. 1960 - 2015

IUKA - David A. Colyn Jr., 55, died March 23, 2015, at Pratt Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 21, 1960, in Denver, Colo. he was the son of David A. and Faye Colyn Sr. He was a former resident of McPherson graduating from McPherson High School. For the first 20 minutes of the Central Kansas High School All-Star Game Sunday it was the Rachel Doll show. The Ellinwood High School senior dominated the opening 20 minutes and with that led her team to a 93-87 win at the Barton Gym on the campus Barton Community College.

Cougar softball breaks another streak in split with Butler

It was a weekend of almost for the Barton Community College softball team. The Cougars almost won three of the four games at the BUCO Bash at Butler Community College. They almost lost all four.
