Drivers Ed parents to meet at GBHS Commons area

There will be a Drivers Ed parent meeting in the Commons area of Great Bend High School on Wednesday. Students interested in taking driver education must be age 14 by June 1. Last names starting A-M will meet from 4 to 5 p.m. Last names N-Z will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Enrollment will take place after the meeting; enrollment forms will not be accepted without payment. Cost for the class is $150 ($100 for students qualifying for free/reduced lunches).

Tanner Hlavaty Memorial Scholarship Benefit Dinner announced

The Tanner Hlavaty Memorial Scholarship Benefit Dinner will be held from 4-7 p.m. April 17 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Olmitz. The menu will include Tanner's favorite foods: Hot dogs, beans, chips, macaroni and cheese, and Oreo dirt cake. Free-will offerings will be accepted and proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund for Otis-Bison High School seniors.

Arts Center announces tag sale

A tag sale at the Barton County Arts Center, 1401 Main, Great Bend, has been rescheduled. Executive Director Karen Neuforth said the said will be held Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items including ceramics, paintings, frames and LPs will be on sale, with proceeds benefiting the BCAC. Donations are also welcome.

LaVerna C. Moore, 80, died Feb. 26, 2015, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 11, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of G.F. and Christina (Cook) Ohnmacht. Originally from Olmitz, she married Walter B. Moore Jr. on Sept. 8, 1956, at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, Chicago, Ill. He died Oct. 17, 2002. A Great Bend resident since 1991, returning from Chicago, she was a homemaker.

SARASOTA, Fla. - Vicky Boger Trivett, 76, died on Feb. 21, 2015. Born May 17, 1938, in Ulm, Germany, she was the daughter of Fredrich and Rosa Bauder. On April 27, 1960, she married Richard Dean Boger in Columbus, Ga. The couple resided in Great Bend from 1960 to 1974, before moving to Ellinwood from 1974-2002. They owned Boger Pharmacy in Ellinwood and Boger Gift Gallery in Great Bend. On April 19, 2002, Richard passed away. On Oct. 3, 2003, Vicky married Preston Trivett. The couple resided in Sarasota, Fla.

US-56 pavement widening and box bridge project in Lyons set to begin

Starting around Monday, March 2, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin a project to replace the concrete box bridge on the west side of Century Road and widen US-56 to four lanes from the end of the existing four lane roadway west to the entrance to the airport. Project construction is scheduled to be completed in September, depending on delays due to adverse weather conditions.
