Senator Moran now accepting 2013 Service Academy applications
U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) is accepting applications for nominations to the United States Service Academies. The academies include the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Those selected will enter the academies in June 2014.
BCARSP meeting
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met on May 10, at Montana Mike's in Great Bend. President Sally O'Connor presided over the meeting. There were 50 members and two guests present.
USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools
The following meals will be served May 20 through May 23. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Local students named Governor’s Scholar
At the invitation of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, Ethan Kaufman, Russell High School, Taylor Fry, Great Bend High School and Conner Birzer, Ellinwood High School, were selected to attend the 30th Annual Governor's Scholars Awards Program on May 5, in Topeka.

Derek and Angie Linden announce the birth of their son, Connor Michael Linden, on April 10 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. and was 20 in. long. He has a big brother, 7-year-old Jordan Alexander Brough and a big sister, 3-year-old Hayden Elizabeth Linden.

Rodrigo (Kino) Adame and Nakita Fischer announce the birth of their son, Kacen Rodrigo Adame, on March 18th. He weighed 5 lbs. 13 oz. and was 18 1/2 in. long.

Jessica Pearson and Robert (Jake) Johnson were united in marriage on Jan. 26, in an outdoor service in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic. Parents of the bride are Linda and Clayton Pearson of Great Bend. Parents of the groom are John and Peggy Johnson of Wichita.

Ryan and Katie Thurman announce the birth of their son, Grady Ryan Thurman, on March 24 in Lawrence. He weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. and was 21 in. long.

Brent and Jamie Taylor announce the birth of their son, Connor James Taylor, on April 10 at St. Luke's South Hospital in Overland Park. He weighed 8 lbs. and was 19 1/4 in. long.
