Issuing A Challenge: GBHS class of '57 donates to BCC Auditorium renovation

Members of the Great Bend High School Class of 1957 recently sponsored two seats for $125 each as part of the Take a Seat campaign to renovate the Fine Arts Auditorium. They are challenging other classes to follow their example.

Pump prices climbing

Average retail gasoline prices in Kansas have risen almost 22 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.52 per gallon earlier this week, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 1,329 gas outlets in Kansas. This compares with the national average that has increased 15 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.62.

Reid Goes Nuclear for Union Bosses

In 2005, Senate Republicans floated the idea of altering Senate rules to eliminate the filibuster for judicial nominees. The proposal, dubbed the nuclear option, involved breaking Senate rules to change Senate rules. (The rules require a two-thirds vote for rules changes, but the nuclear option changes the rules by simple majority.) Democrats fought back against it furiously. Harry Reid led the fight, saying on the Senate floor: "I would never, ever consider breaking the rules to change the rules." Well, adjust your clocks to "never." Reid is now poised to execute the nuclear option.
