City Slickers 4-H club meeting

The Great Bend City Slickers 4-H Club met on Oct. 10 at the Presbyterian Church. Thirteen members, two leaders, nine parents and three guests were present. New officers elected were: Josh Crawford-President; Caleb Maneth-Vice-president; Haley Hicks-Secretary; Parker Scheck-Treasurer;Audrey Likes-Reporter; and Stephen Crawford and Nicole Rziha-Song Leaders. Stephen Crawford gave a demonstration and Parker Scheck gave a talk.

Donald Bowsher will celebrate his 90th birthday on Nov. 7 with a card shower. Married to his wife Twila for 60 years, he has two sons, Keith of Lawrence and Mark and wife Marg of Richmond, Texas; and two grandchildren, Kevin of Los Alamitos, Calif. and Lindsey Bailey of Sugarland Texas.

Great Bend Saddle Club 'Silly Chili Play Day'

The Great Bend Saddle Club held its annual Silly Chili Play Day on Oct. 27 for members and the public. A costume contest for participants and/or their horses was held. Winners in the children's division were: 1st- Olivia Keller, 2nd- Justice Keller, 3rd- Samantha Ledesma. In the adult division, winners were 1st- Julie Keller, 2nd- Judy Demel, 3rd- Wanda Schroeder. Following the costume contest were trail, poles and flag relay games. Prizes for the day were donated by Great Bend Coop, Countryside Veterinary, The Boot doctor, High Call Outfitters and O'Reilly Automotive. Chili and desserts were served.

Dean and Judy Sateren of Ellinwood will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Nov. 9 with a card shower. A family dinner is planned for a later date. The couple has three children, Kim Ward of Ellinwood, Jodi Schriner of Granbury, Texas, and Rick and Debbie Sateren of Great Bend; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
