Great Bend Police Tools were stolen from a vehicle on 19th St., it was reported last Wednesday. Loss was $600. A silver can containing collectable coins was found on 10th St. on Thursday. Another individual reported finding some coins from a collection in the street on Forrest Ave. Friday morning. Shoes and clothes were stolen from a locker at the high school sometime before March 2. Paul Turnbull 1929-2011

Paul Turnbull, 81, went to meet Jesus Feb. 20, 2011. Paul, the youngest of 11, and his twin, John, were born in Elizabeth, Pa., in 1929. He attended Sterling College and served as Bushton Postmaster 42 years and on boards of USD 328 and Great Bend Center for Counseling. Paul loved gardening, swimming, family camping trips, making home-made ice cream, playing Boogaloo and Tennessee Turnbull Reunions.

Leadership Golden Belt announces 2011 dates

November of 2010 marked a end to the third class of Leadership Golden Belt graduates who attended almost three months of leadership training in the Golden Belt region. Now, the dates for the 2011 session have been announced, said Christy Tustin, director of the Golden Belt Community Foundation which sponsors the program.

American Legion to hold dinner

Sandzen art sale establishes schoalrships for Hoisington students

Two Birger Sandzén paintings were returned to Hoisington USD 431 in late February, to the relief and surprise of Superintendent Bill Lowry. He was amazed at their appearance. The paintings were actually high-quality photographic reproductions of the original pieces that the district sold at auction last summer, along with a small Sandzén watercolor painting.

Chamber Coffee

This weeks Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Smokey Hill Public Television at the Great Bend Chamber and E.D. Conference Room, 1125 Williams, at 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Murder suspect Earle Barranco, 24, was arrested in Charlotte, N.C., three weeks after allegedly killing a man in a New York City diner. Barranco was spotted at a Charlotte Bobcats basketball game, mugging for the arena's JumboTron while decked out in the distinctive jewelry he wore during the alleged murder. Dear Editor, I disagree with the conclusions about Barton Community Colleges policy governance that Paul Unruh expressed in his recent letter to the editor. You don't have to look far in Kansas to find community colleges that suffered long-lasting damage from trustees who brought their personal agendas to the board and inflicted them on the college.
