Northview Nursery to host Chamber of Commerce Coffee
This week's Chamber of Commerce Coffee will be hosted by Northview Nursery, 172 North U.S. 281, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Ambassador in charge will be Jan Westfall with greeters Randy Bahe and Eric Gotsche. Coffee, doughnuts and door prizes will be available.

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will hold a board retreat Thursday and Friday in Junction CIty and at Fort Riley. BOCK raises money for hospice patients
The Bikers of Central Kansas raised more than $900 during its annual Chili Challenge to benefit Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice. Claudie E. "Dolly" Southard, 95, of Great Bend, died Feb. 26 at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. She was born May 4, 1915, at Owensboro, Ky., the daughter of Jesse Leroy and Edith Amanda (Jamison) Gough. She married George Wesley Southard on March 2, 1934, at Hutchinson. He died Feb. 26, 1978. ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team placed first in team sweepstakes in a 19-team meet held at Kiowa County High School in Greensburg on Feb. 19. The team earned first-place trophies two weekends in a row, having also placed first at Southeast of Saline in February.

Society to hold banquet
LLINWOOD - Jim Gray, who is the founder of the Cowboy Society, and a speaker for the Kansas Humanities Council, began his presentation at the Ellinwood Community Historical Society annual meeting by saying "A lot of the stuff in movies, isn't exactly right but it makes good stories. You can always tell if they don't know what they are talking about."
GBHS forensic team brings home 10 medals
The Great Bend High School Forensic Team competed in the Nickerson Forensic Tournament on Saturday, Febr. 26. Eleven students competed and brought home 10 medals. They had four State Speech Championship qualifiers and placed fourth overall in sweepstakes. 29 schools competed at the tournament. The rankings are as follows:
