Local dietician shares expertise at St. Rose Parkinson's meeting

A local registered dietician will share information about nutrition at the next Parkinson's Support Group meeting at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center. It is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the basement-level St. Dominic Room.

Deborah K. (Debbie) George 1955 - 2013

LARNED - Deborah K. (Debbie) George, 57, died Feb. 15 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Aug. 24, 1955 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Larned, she was the daughter of Lloyd W. and Katherine L. Debes George. In 1960 she moved to Boulder, Colo. for schooling at North Broadway, until she was 21, and then she worked at Boulder County Workshop. In February of 1993, she moved back to Kansas and worked at Sunflower Diversified Services.

Robert D. Dougherty, 81, died Feb. 18 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, Kansas.

Adam P. Deckert 1919 - 2013

PAWNEE ROCK - Adam P. Deckert, 94, died Feb. 16 at Sunrise of Lenexa in Lenexa. Born Feb. 6, 1919 in Great Bend, he was the son of Peter and Susie (Ratzlaff) Deckert. On April 15, 1945 he married Helen Schmidt in Pawnee Rock. She died on April 7, 1996. A long-time Pawnee Rock resident, Mr. Deckert was a Lenexa resident for two years, coming from Great Bend where he resided for 17 years. He was a farmer and also worked for Doerr Metal in Larned.

EHS forensics team wins meet

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team earned a trophy for 1st place in team sweepstakes at the KC Maverick Invitational at Kiowa County High School in Greensburg on Sat., Feb. 16. Nineteen schools competed in the meet, and Ellinwood beat 2nd place Sterling by a margin of forty points.

Farm expo coming to town

The 2015 Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo will be held Wednesday through Friday, April 8, 9, and 10, 2015 in Great Bend. The show is located at the Expo Complex west of town. The show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the 8th, 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. on the 9th and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the 10th with extended hours on Thursday.
