Eric and Lisa Tolan announce the birth of their son, Awesome James Tolan, on Aug. 21, in Bentonville, Ark. He weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. and was 20 1/2 in. long. He has a big brother, Alexander Roberts of Bentonville, Ark., who is 15 years old.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Brening will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Sept. 4. The couple celebrated their anniversary recently with their children in Kansas City for a weekend and an anniversary dinner. Attending were Kim Solomon and fiancée Ken Wilson, of Kansas City, Kevin and Pat Brening, of Hutchinson, Kelli and Brent Hirneisen, of Goodyear, Ariz.; and six of their nine grandchildren.

Roy and Kay Savage, of Great Bend, recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. Primary celebration of the event will be during the Thanksgiving holidays when they will join their children and grandchildrenfor a time of family fun in Estes Park, Colo.

The 2011 Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes was held Saturday, Aug. 20, on Kansas State University campus in Manhattan. The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes a project to improve the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway overlook east of Hoisington, the Doonan communications tower replacement project and a Southwst Kansas Area on Aging Board appointment.
LACROSSE - The Meade at LaCrosse Class 2A football playoff game has been postponed from Friday night until 3 p.m. Saturday because of a wintry forecast. LaCrosse (11-0) and Meade (10-1) have met in the playoffs the past three years. Defending state champion Meade beat LaCrosse 34-12 last year. By mid-morning Friday, Meade has received 3 inches of snow. Hugoton reported 5 inches of snow and Seward County reported 4 inches of snow.
