Harbey Fanshier, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 24, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb. 7, 1924, at Stafford County, the son of Charles and Martha (Fischer) Fanshier.

Five to be inducted into 2011 BCC Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday

The Barton Community College Sports Hall of Fame will grow by five this year with the inductions of Tom Curtis, Trish (Gadberry) Wade, George Donley and Jim and Jo Ann Heaton. Woman rams Sunflower mini-bus

A woman who intentionally drove into an unoccupied Sunflower Diversified Services mini-bus last Saturday may be charged with criminal damage to property, Captain Bob Robinson at the Great Bend Police Department said. Holy Family School Fun Day

Children from Holy Family School are shown with some of the school's Fun Day prizes. Fun Day is actually a two-day event, with bingo from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the St. Patrick Parish Center (ham sandwich meal served from 6:30-8:30) and the official Fun Day from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Parish Center and HFS Commons Area. New principal

USD 355 has a new MS/HS principal for the upcoming school year. Shawn Henderson is currently the band instructor at Scott Community High School. Shawn and his wife Marie have two children, Mallory,7, and Nate, 5. The family enjoys being actively involved in their community. They also enjoy performing and singing/playing music together. The Henderson family said they are excited about this opportunity and look forward to joining the Eagle family.

Dan Allen Noblitt 1934 - 2013

Dan Allen Noblitt, 78, died May 4 at his home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 16, 1934 in Great Bend, he was the son of George O. and Edith (Marsh) Noblitt. On April 18, 1958 he married Thelma Beebe in Norwalk, Calif. A long time resident of Great Bend, he was most recently employed as a regional manager for Super 8 Motels.

Helen R. Berscheidt 1918 - 2013

BELPRE - Helen R. Berscheidt, 94, died April 19, at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 22, 1918, she was the daughter of Matt and Martha Heinke Maes. On Feb. 4, 1941 she married John N. Berscheidt in Claflin. He passed away in 1974. A lifetime area resident she was a farmwife and an occupational therapist for the Larned State Hospital for 25 years.
