Lori Hammeke and Jeanette Corbett of CPI Qualified Plan Consultants, Inc. (CPI) have recently passed all of the required exams to attain their TGPC (Tax-Exempt & Governmental Plan Consultant) designation through ASPPA (American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries). These exams include the Tax-Exempt Governmental Plan Administration & Plan Consultant (TGPC-1 & TGPC-2) exams.
A winter/spring webinar series will provide drought planning information and tools to advisors seeking to help Great Plains ranchers better prepare for and respond to drought. The webinars are scheduled from January through May 2013, on the last Wednesday of each month.
Eugene Hallett will celebrate his 80th birthday on Jan. 6.
Lauren Wissman and Jeff Kuhlman were united in marriage on July 7 in Olmitz in a double ring ceremony officiated by Father Ultan Murphy. Parents of the bride are Robert and Susan Wissman. Parents of the groom are Gerry and Ann Kuhlman. The bride was given in marriage by her parents.
Jennifer Wapelhorst and Ken Cason were united in marriage on Oct. 18 at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nev. Parents of the bride are Paul and Charlotte Wapelhorst of Great Bend. Parents of the groom are Paul Cason of Albuquerque, N.M. and Roberta DeJonge of Aurora, Colo.
Agent Frank Callahan of Great Bend and Larned has been named Agent of the Month by American Family Insurance. He received the honor for outstanding sales of American Family insurance products during the month of December.
The following well-balanced and nutritious Friendship Meals will be served for lunch at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Meals are served with milk; donations for coffee and tea are accepted.
The following meals will be served Jan. 7 through Jan. 11. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

The February program at Barton County Historical Society will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, in the main museum, located on US Highway 281 just south of the Arkansas River Bridge, in the Ray Schulz Research Library.
It was a pretty good night at the Barton Gym for the Barton Cougar women's basketball team.
Lyons Public Library and Rice County Historical Society will host a joint fundraiser celebrating sports and the way sports build and unite communities. This fundraising event will feature Chase High School graduate and retired NFL player Paul Coffman as guest speaker. Coffman played collegiate ball for Kansas State University before signing as an undrafted rookie free agent for the Green Bay Packers in 1978. His career for the Packers spanned from 1978-1985. He later played for the Kansas City Chiefs (1986-1987) and the Minnesota Vikings (1988) and was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1994.
It almost happened again. The Barton Community College men's basketball team entered the NJCAA Top 25 for the second time this year Tuesday. The last time the Cougars did that they followed it up with a pair of losses.

For President Obama and the unlawful immigrants he is determined to reward with work permits, social security numbers, and welfare benefits, last week was triumphant. As the congressional February 27 deadline for funding the Department of Homeland Security draws closer, insiders learn with each passing day that Obama's executive action is much more expansive than originally presented.
Last week President Obama sent Congress legislation to authorize him to use force against ISIS "and associated persons and forces" anywhere in the world for the next three years. This is a blank check for the president to start as many new wars as he wishes, and it appears Congress will go along with this dangerous and costly scheme.
At the Medicine Lodge Speech Tournament on Feb. 12, the Great Bend High School Speech Team qualified three more events to state. Becca Kay qualified to state in Original Oration by placing 2nd in the event. Hadley Murphy qualified in both Original Oration and Serious Solo Acting by placing 1st in both of the events. Sara Allen placed 6th in Original Oration and Becca Kay placed 5th Serious Solo Acting. "The team only brought four students and still placed 4th overall in sweepstakes out of 13 schools which is very impressive." stated GBHS speech coach Barbara Watson.

LAWRENCE - Approximately 4,970 undergraduate students at the University of Kansas earned honor roll distinction for the fall 2014 semester.
PITTSBURG – Pittsburg State University has released the honor rolls for the 2014 fall semester. To qualify for Dean's Scholastic Honors, a student must complete at least 12 semester hours, receive a grade point average (GPA) of 3.6000 for all credit course work that semester and have no grade lower than a B and no grade of I in any course during the semester.
