ELLINWOOD - The Calvary Baptist Church, 307 W. A. St. in Ellinwood, is distributing food, clothing and toys this Christmas season for those in need.
Fuller Industries LLC officially took possession of the former Fuller Brush Company's manufacturing and distribution facility in Great Bend on Saturday morning Dec. 1, as part of a bankruptcy settlement bid to purchase all personal property, real estate and industrial business segments, which includes the custom brush and commercial janitorial supply businesses. This overall effort was made possible with the commitment and cooperation of numerous local investors who rallied local resources to purchase this company and retain the 200 plus jobs in our community.
The Newman University Music Department will present its first instrumental concert of the year at 7:30 p.m. today. The performance will be staged in the Performance Hall of the De Mattias Fine Arts Center on the Newman University campus. The event is free and open to the public.
USD 428 Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday at the District Education Office, 201 South Patton Road. Items on the agenda include approval of Title VI B and ECH budget; approval of 2011-2012 business audit; request to secure proposals for website hosting; request to employ additional family support worker; update on Great Bend High School gym construction; and updates on carpet replacement in the Central Kitchen and Technology Department storage and windows.

Jarod and Megan Appelhans of Wichita announce the birth of their daughter, Emma Marie, on Aug. 23. She weighed 5 lbs. and was 18 1/2 in. long.
Sheldon and Kristie Peacock of Great Bend will celebrate their 40th anniversary on Dec. 27 with a card shower.
League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold the monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at Montana Mike's in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.
The Progress Club met on December 3 at the home of Patricia Halbower with 20 members and one guest in attendance. Norma Ward and Donna McAllaster were the co-hostesses.
It is fairly common that my educational programs and workshops emphasize a common theme of health and wellness. The annual Walk Kansas program is just around the corner, so it is time to start rounding up your team members for that successful program. Packets are ready for team captains to pick up at our office and the Great Bend Recreation Commission. I also plan to deliver some packets to the recreation commissions in Hoisington and Ellinwood.
