82d Airborne Returns from Afghanistan
The 82d Airborne Division has returned from Afghanistan after completing their missions over a two year period. This division has been America's No.1 fighting division since World War II, also highly decorated.

Jeremy and Mandy Keil of Great Bend announce the birth of their daughter, Victoria Lenae Keil on Dec. 17 at Promise Regional Hospital in Hutchinson. She weighed 6 lbs. 15 1/2 oz. and was 19 1/2 in. long.

Rufus Kimple 90th
Rufus P. Fimple will celebrate his 90th birthday with a card shower. He was born March 3, 1921, in Bacca County Colo. After graduating from Sterling High School, he attended Kansas State University on a track scholarship, until being drafted for military service. Doris Spray, Great Bend, has made a substantial contribution to the College of Engineering at Kansas State University to establish the Orville "Butch" and Doris Spray Family Civil Engineering Scholarship.

USD 428 summer menu
USD 428 Great Bend School Food Service will offer the summer lunch program at Riley, Park, Eisenhower and Lincoln schools. The program will run from June 3 through June 27 (Monday through Thursday). Breakfast is served at Park and Riley only. There is no charge for anyone age 1 through 18. Sites are open to all children regardless of where they attend school. Parents may eat with their children for $3 for lunch or $2 for breakfast. All food must be consumed on site.
Local FFA members earn Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarships
Local FFA members were among the 83 Kansas students awarded $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarships during the third session of the 85th annual Kansas FFA State Convention on Thursday, May 30.
Brian Fry retires from KDOT
Brian Fry, Engineering Technician Senior for the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), will retire on June 1 after 13 ½ years of valued service to the State of Kansas. As an Engineering Technician Senior in the Great Bend KDOT Office, Fry was lead inspector on numerous highway construction projects in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush, and Stafford Counties. After retirement from KDOT, Fry plans to continue working in another area of employment.
