The following well-balanced and nutritious Friendship Meals will be served for lunch at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Meals are served with milk; donations for coffee and tea are accepted.

FHSU to host Scholarly and Creative Activities Day

Research posters by students and faculty at Fort Hays State University will be on public display from 8 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, in the Memorial Union's Fort Hays Ballroom. Scholarly and Creative Activities Day is sponsored by the faculty-led Scholarly Environment Committee

Progress Club met on April 1 at the home of Judy Fox. Jackie Curtis and Maxie Hinkson were the co-hostesses. There were 18 members in attendance.

USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools

The following meals will be served April 8 through April 12. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

League of Women Voters of Great Bend will hold it's monthly meeting at noon on Tuesday at Montana Mike's, in the north room. Lunch will be from the menu and can be from their "quick serve" menu.

Stockton native Chase Look has been promoted to Associate Lender at American State Bank and Trust Company in Great Bend. He previously held the position of Credit Analyst for the past four years. He will specialize in residential real estate, ag and commercial lending.

Volunteers in Action News

Linn Hogg joined the Volunteers in Action team on March 1 and has really hit the ground running. She has developed several projects utilizing young people for April, beginning with the food drive "Check Out Hunger" held on April 6 with RSVP volunteers, 6th graders from Holy Family School in Great Bend, Brownies and Girl Scouts. This inter-generational project benefits the Community Food Bank of Barton County which has already served 1,700 Barton County residents since January 2013; 44% of those served are children. 6,705 Barton County residents were served in all of 2012.

Bandits win back-to-back titles

PRATT- It was a very rewarding Father's Day for the dad's of the Barton Bandits 13U baseball team. Behind exceptional pitching the Bandits successfully defended back-to-back tournament titles at the 2015 Smoky Ford Wood Bat Tournament held this weekend at the Green Sports Complex in Pratt.

Golden Belt swimmers win Hays meet

HAYS- The Golden Belt swim team recorded a first place finish at last weekend's meet in Hays. Aubrey Snapp placed first in all her events. Cal Dunekack and sister Camryn were standouts as well. Phane Pedigo and Dawson Clark were leaders in the high school boys events. All swimmers improved their times swimming in a 50 meter pool.
