BCC making progress on capital improvements

Home improvement has been the priority for Cougar Nation in the past year, as more than a dozen projects at Barton Community College have been given attention. Many are either in the works or completed, leaving just a handful that have yet to begin construction.

This came from an article done by R. R. Reno of Hillsdale College. In his article titled Religion and Public Life in America, he cited a recent study, as well as, federal census statistics to build his case.

Street signs missing in Ellinwood

ELLINWOOD - Crime Stoppers is seeking information about the removal of street signs and brackets from Ellinwood Streets. Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings, speaking for Crime Stoppers, reports eight signs and brackets were eight stolen or damaged at various location in Ellinwood sometime between 9 p.m. on July 4 and 8 a.m. on July 6.

Michael P. Bartz 1968 - 2013

LARNED – Michael P. Bartz, 45, died July 10 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born July 10, 1968, in Columbus, Neb., he was the son of Melvin and Carol Walsh Bartz. On April 20, 1991, he married Sandra Ashley in Larned. She survives. He was the owner of Bartz Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning.

First week of July turns tragic

TOPEKA – Each year, millions of people enjoy spending time at Kansas lakes and rivers and return home with happy memories to share with others. Sadly, outdoor fun turned fatal for five people who drowned in Kansas waters the first week of July – including four who perished over the extended July 4 holiday, one of whom was a Hoisington man, according to Maj. Dan Hesket, boating law administrator for the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism.
