Christian Motorcycle Association plans Bikes & Blues Rally

The Christian Motorcyclists Association invites everyone to meet in the City Park in Macksville on May 4, for the fourth annual Macksville Bikes & Blues Rally. The event starts at noon with a prayer and the CMA's "Run for the Son" ride. There will be live music, food venders and camping available in the park.

Dancers step their way to honors

Dancers from Euphoria Dance Centre in Great Bend were awarded 11 Elite Top First Awards and 19 Top First Awards in the Talent on Parade dance competition on April 11–April 14 in Overland Park. In addition, four dancers, Jewelia Depperschmidt, Daehlyn Ellis, Shaylee Patterson and Kaitlyn Pohlman received Top Starz invitations to compete at the Talent on Parade National Competition, June 25 – 30 in Overland Park.

Pheasants Forever is helping to publicize a meeting for landowners interested in learning more about the potential listing of the lesser prairie-chicken (LPC) as a threatened or endangered species by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Winter Weather Adds Challenge to Walk Kansas Program

Every spring during the past 11 years I look forward to participating in the Walk KS program. This year we have had many challenges, like the weekly bouts of winter weather, forcing us to exercise indoors. It is so much more fun to enjoy a walk or bike ride outdoors, taking in the sights and sounds around you. We ended up with 49 Walk KS teams in Barton County this year. What is Mother Nature thinking?

They say that April showers bring May flowers. The question on everybody's mind right now is what do April ice storms bring? This year, for three weeks in a row, this region has experienced temperatures well below freezing with ice and snow adding to the problems. After two severe drought years the good news is we finally are receiving some moisture. The wheat fields may be growing slow, and look promising as of now, but how much more of Mother Nature's changing moods can it handle?
