LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. - Joseph Henry Kimpler, III, of Libertyville, Ill., left this earth and took the fast track to heaven on Nov. 12, in Great Bend. He was celebrating the 20th annual family pheasant hunting trip when he suffered a fatal heart attack. There he was reunited with beloved wife, Margaret, and Jesus Christ, his Savior. "Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from god, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands" (2 Corinthians 5:1).

Margaret L. Prosser, 92, died April 3 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 29, 1921, in Pryor, Colo., she was the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Fabiney) Vigna. On Nov. 22, 1945, she married Joseph D. Prosser in Beaver. He died on Sept. 12, 1982. A Great Bend resident since 1945, coming from Pryor, Colo., she was a homemaker.

On Tuesday, Kansas formally joined an Oklahoma-led lawsuit challenging the process by which a federal agency decided to list the lesser prairie chicken as threatened, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said. Governor Sam Brownback had announced last Friday that Kansas would be joining the suit.
TOPEKA – The Charles Hulme Foundation of Great Bend has given $100,000 to The Nature Conservancy in Kansas, for the Our Kansas Prairie Legacy: The Next Steps capital campaign. The donation is a lead gift in the campaign and will be used to protect and improve wetland habitats across Kansas, including at Cheyenne Bottoms Preserve.
