Students from Great Bend's Central Kansas Christian Academy brought home several awards from the annual Midwinter tournament in Jan. 18 Garden City. The tournament is hosted by High Plains Home Educators out of Garden City and many Christian schools and home school associations participate each year. Although this was CKCA's first trip, it was a productive one.
Barton County has been chosen to receive $4,558 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. The selection was made by a national board chaired by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management.
The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. Topics of discussion will include updates to the county's zoning regulations, improvements to the county's website, bridge inspections and high risk rural roads.
PRATT - St. John-Hudson High School's girls' basketball team improved to 11-0 on the season with a 56-23 drumming of Wichita North to open the Pratt Girls' Tournament of Champions on Thursday afternoon.
DODGE CITY - Congressman Tim Huelskamp announced Thursday he had nominated Bryce Divis to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Military Academy. Divis is the son of Stephen and Dixie Divis.

Saturday May 30, 2015 the Kansas Wetlands Education Center along with the Central Kansas Photography Club will sponsor a day-long photography workshop. The workshop will feature Jim Griggs, photographer and founding father of the Great Plains Nature Photographers.
