William V. "Bill" VanSkike, 87, of Great Bend, died Nov. 29 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. He was born May 21, 1923, in rural Arkansas City, the son of Harry and Mary Anna (Bossi) VanSkike. He married Grace Ellen Dickson on Sept. 3, 1950, at El Dorado. Harry "Rudy" R. Louis
CIMARRON – Harry "Rudy" R. Louis, 68, died Nov. 28 at the Shepherd's Center, Cimarron. He was born Dec. 29, 1941, at Wichita, the son of Harry Edward and Madge Alberta Stone Louis. He received his Specialty Degree from UCLA. He taught school for six years in Pratt and in 1974 developed the middle school in Hugoton. He was a school administrator for 32 years, serving as high school principal in Holcomb and Cimarron, and retired in June 2002.
Sister Coletta Masterson
Sister Coletta Masterson, 90, died Nov. 29 in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary, Great Bend. Born Sept. 19, 1920, in Clonmel, as Magdalen Ellen Masterson, Sister Coletta was the daughter of the late Frank and Theresa Marx Masterson. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community on Aug. 31, 1935, and pronounced her first vows Aug. 17, 1938. She celebrated 70 years of religious profession in 2008.
Barton's Criminal Justice Team wins trophies in national competition
Barton Community College's Criminal Justice Team, Sigma Phi Omega chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon, won trophies in four divisions of the Region III LAE American Criminal Justice Association national competition Oct. 15-17 in Overland Park.

ELLINWOOD - The criterion for the Alan Fullbright Scholarship are a reflection of what was significant in Alan Fullbright's life. The 2013 scholarship recipients are Stephanie Troyer who will be majoring in Music Education and attending Barton Community College. She has held several offices in KAY, FBLA, International Club and was the Student Council secretary and vice president of her class.
Dan Allen Noblitt 1934 - 2013
Dan Allen Noblitt, 78, died May 4 at his home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 16, 1934 in Great Bend, he was the son of George O. and Edith (Marsh) Noblitt. On April 18, 1958 he married Thelma Beebe in Norwalk, Calif. A long time resident of Great Bend, he was most recently employed as a regional manager for Super 8 Motels.
Helen R. Berscheidt 1918 - 2013
BELPRE - Helen R. Berscheidt, 94, died April 19, at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 22, 1918, she was the daughter of Matt and Martha Heinke Maes. On Feb. 4, 1941 she married John N. Berscheidt in Claflin. He passed away in 1974. A lifetime area resident she was a farmwife and an occupational therapist for the Larned State Hospital for 25 years.
