Darrel Dunekack 1938 - 2013

Darrel Dunekack, 74, died Jan. 21 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Nov. 11, 1938 in Great Bend, he was the son of Wilbur Henry and Vera Anita Faye (Otte) Dunekack. On Oct. 24, 1965 he married Anne Preston in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline and was a farmer. He enjoyed farming and gardening and in his younger days fishing and hunting.

Special meeting set Wednesday

LARNED -- The Pawnee County commission has scheduled a special meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Pawnee County Courthouse to consider approval for wiring payment to GE for a new 64 slice CT scanner. The commission will consider any other business as presented.

Volunteers sought to find host families

The American Scandinavian Student Exchange is seeking volunteers in the Great Bend area to help the non-profit international organization identify host families for exchange students, said Stephanie Weishaar, Wichita-based Kansas coordinator for ASSE. Although the name says Scandinavian, Weishaar said ASSE has expanded and works with high school students in over 20 countries.

Larned USD 495 school board provides answers

LARNED - The Fort Larned 495 school board compiled answers to questions submitted by a citizen's group at the Jan. 7 meeting. Mike Burdett represented the local group that has recently looked at taxation in Pawnee County. The group's goal is to understand the tax burden and mill levy. They are looking to become more informed.
