Edward Smink started as a nurse's assistant and then traveled many avenues in the health-care industry before becoming the new executive director of mission and ministry at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center. Working with the executive team, Smink's responsibilities are to oversee St. Rose's mission, which includes staff development, spiritual care services, ethics consultation and community coalition activities.

Fellow veterans have reached out to help Robert Jensen, whose Great Bend home sustained an estimated $50,000 in fire damage on Feb. 3. Firefighters were dispatched to 812 Stone St. at 10:15 p.m. that night. The first crew on the scene reported heavy fire and smoke from a window, Fire Chief Mike Napolitano said after the fire.
Jewelry valued at $9,400 when a Great Bend residence was burglarized earlier this month, Police Chief Dean Akings said. There was no forced entry into the residence, located at 3727 22nd St., but construction was being performed there. Sometime during the period of Feb. 6-8, unknown persons entered and took goal and diamond earrings, a gold ring with ruby stone, a gold ring with a cluster of diamonds, two other gold rings and a gold necklace.

February. The time of the year when we romantically pour out our undying love and affection towards our significant other with flowers, chocolates, and other gifts on Valentine's Day. Ironically, February seems like a complete contradiction to romanticism, sporting a barren landscape, dead flowers, leafless trees, and a temperature that is usually cold as the dickens. In fact, most animals have even bailed ship in hopes of finding a warmer locale or have buried themselves underground to ride out the rest of winter. Somehow though, Valentine's Day does seem to inspire romance, no matter how you approach it.

The key to the effectiveness of these management practices include cost, time, markets and climate. Also remember we are speaking about resistance developing in insects and diseases, not just weeds.
