The Shafer Art Gallery will begin a new series of learning sessions entitled "Art Chats," beginning next week at the gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building at Barton Community College. The first program, "Ladies of the Rococo: Belles of the French Court," will be presented from noon to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20. It will be led by Shafer Gallery Director Dave Barnes.
RAYTOWN, Mo. - Marcia C. McIntyre, 71, passed away Aug. 3. After years of moving around with the Air Force, she and her husband settled in Raytown, Mo., where she eventually retired from DST Systems. She moved to Dayton in January, 2012.
ELLINWOOD - Richard L. Worman, 88, died Aug. 12 at the VA Hospital in Wichita. Born June 10, 1925 in Three Sands, Okla., he was the son of John M. Worman and Ruby F. Cates Worman. On Oct. 7, 1958, he married Barbara A. Bryant in Ellinwood. A longtime resident of Ellinwood, he was a retired mail carrier and retired co-owner of Worman Standard Service of Ellinwood. He was the first baseman on the Ellinwood Merchants baseball team.
"Transitions: A mother and daughter art show" exhibits the visual and textual representations experienced in the lives of mother and daughter on a road to recover through expressions and transitions. The featured artists are Johnita and Elizabeth Becker. It will be a mixed media presentation of artwork, and is the 7th show at Petr's Frame House. "Its a mother and daughter going through life's problems," said Grigorev. "They transition from old to something new."The exhibit is hosted by Petr's Frame House, 2009 16th St., at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 17.
Kanopolis State Park will host a guided nature hike from 9 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 31. Hikers will meet at Trailhead C in the East Shore State Park-Horsethief Area and will learn about area history, plants and animals as well as see caves, creeks, rock formations, and prairie. Hikers are asked to wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and muddy, bring bug spray and a water bottle.
This summer, the Barton County 4-H Shooting Sports Program added a new discipline, Small Bore Rifle, to compliment the other disciplines, Air Rifle, Archery and Hunting Skills, that they already have in place.
