Three undefeated GBHS debate teams

On Monday, Oct. 15, at the Hoisington Novice Debate Tournament, the Great Bend High School debate squad had four novice teams compete. Three teams placed and all were undefeated with a perfect three and zero win/loss record. Jordan Otten and Kameko Schultz placed first with perfect speaker points. Sarah Keller and Mallorie McNett placed fourth and Kimberly Gonzalez and Donovan Salgado placed sixth. "Out of my previous tournaments, I felt I did awful, but after placing at the Hoisington Tournament, it boosted my confidence. I am really looking forward to entering more tournaments." Wayne Simien to speak at Ellinwood Schools

ELLINWOOD - Wayne Simien, former University of Kansas basketball standout, will be at Ellinwood Schools on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to speak with students. Mr. Simien received All American honors his junior and senior years at KU and was the BIG 12 Player of the Year his senior year. He was also the Lowe's Award Winner his final year, recognizing him as the nation's top senior men's basketball player. KU retired his number 23 jersey on Jan. 29, 2011. GBHS orchestra plans concert

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, the GBHS Orchestra will perform its fall concert in the high school auditorium. Featured selections are themes from the master choral work "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi and the "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1" by Edvard Grieg. The program will also include a lively "Irish Reel," the bombastic "Toccatina" of William Hofeldt, and a spooktacular piece inspired by classic zombie movies that will be frightening as well as entertaining.
