Scrap metal theft suspect arrested

PAWNEE ROCK - A 911 call from an observant citizen Tuesday morning led to the arrest of a suspect in two burglaries, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. Scrap metal and other stolen items were recovered.

Burglaries, damage reported at power stations

An unknown person entered a power substation of Midwest Energy at 530 NW 30 Road, cutting two locks, it was discovered Monday morning. A Sunflower Electric power station at 335 NW 50 Ave. was also broken into. Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendier said nothing was taken, but the damage was reported to the Department of Homeland Security. "Transformer stations are part of the critical infrastructure," he explained.

On Capitol Hill, events related to the congressional amnesty debate are unfolding at breakneck pace. Last week, the Obama administration authorized the release from federal detention centers of 10,000 criminal aliens.
