Use-of-Force Simulator trains officers

The Barton Community College service area will be a safer place thanks to a new tool employed by the college's criminal justice program, a Use-of-Force Simulator. The simulator puts officers in extreme situations and forces them to make split-second decisions on what type of force to apply in a given situation.

Motorist treated at accident scene

The Barton County Sheriff's Office responded to an injury accident shortly before 5 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of north U.S. 281. A Chevrolet Blazer driven by Emelia Fricks, 17, Hoisington, ran into the back of a Chevrolet Colorado pickup driven by Elizabeth Mater, 47, of Olmitz, as Mater was slowing for another vehicle that was turning at a private drive. Mater was treated at the scene but not transported.

Weather forces Service Day postponement

Due to the winter-like weather, organizers decided Tuesday to postpone the first-ever Great Bend High School Community Service Day that was scheduled for today. The new date is Wednesday, May 1.

Barton Community College's Kara Koepplin won her first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference meet on Monday at StoneRidge Golf Cub.

HHS in charge of Red Cross blood drive

On April 12, Hoisington High School hosted a Red Cross blood drive. Over 60 students, faculty, staff, and community members went through the process of donating. Out of the 60 plus people that came in to donate, the Red Cross received 54 good units of blood. The goal for the Hoisington High School and Community was 41 units of blood. The Hoisington community has not hit their goal in over a year.

Charles Bruce Colvin

FORT DAVIS, Texas - Charles Bruce Colvin, 69, formerly of Ellinwood, died on April 23 at the University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Arrangements are pending with Kimple Funeral Home.
