Retirement reception set for Judge Kitts

A retirement reception for Twentieth Judicial District Judge Hannelore Kitts will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in Courtroom B at the Barton County Courthouse. Kitts has served as a district judge for 17 years. The district includes Barton, Ellsworth, Rice, Russell and Stafford counties.

BCC trustees will discuss future property acquisition

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will be talking about property acquisition during a special meeting on Thursday afternoon. The preliminary discussion on real estate is being held in executive session to protect the public interest in obtaining a fair price. Changing the date of the board's January business meeting is also on the agenda.

Seventh-day Adventists celebrate grand opening, consecration service

The Seventh-day Adventist congregation is celebrating the grand opening of its newly constructed sanctuary located at the corner of 10th Street and SW 30th Ave. (one mile west of 10th and Patton Road) this Saturday, Jan. 5. KSHSAA Changes Senior High Girls Postseason Cross Country Distance (Effective 2015)

In recent years there has been ongoing discussion regarding a potential change in distance for KSHSAA high school girls cross country. Surveys of coaches and athletic directors have reflected increasing support to increase the girls' race distance from 4K to 5K in KSHSAA postseason competition. During the October 2014 KSHSAA Regional Administrator meetings, this was a topic of conversation in part, due to a letter from the U.S. Office of Civil Rights notifying KSHSAA of a complaint OCR received.
