GBMS Band concert

The Great Bend Middle School Bands will present their fall concert this Thursday, Nov. 1, in the gym at Great Bend Middle School. The 7th Grade Band will perform at 6:45 p.m. and the 8th Grade Band will perform at 8:15 p.m. The GBMS Jazz Ensemble will also play at both of these concerts. The concert is under the direction of Kurtis Koch, assisted by Mark DeWald.

Horse show jumping is a longtime Olympics sport, but for the last 10 years, equestrians have been performing in "horseless" show jumping, in which horse courses are run by "riders" on foot (who, by the way, do not straddle broomsticks). According to an October report in The Wall Street Journal, an international association headed by retired pro equestrian Jessica Newman produces at least 15 shows a year, with between 40 to 130 competitors galloping over jumps that vary from two to four feet high (five feet in "Grand Prix" events), with the "riders" graded as if they were on horses ...

Wheat Tour’s projection forecasts 288M bushels

MANHATTAN -- The 2015 Hard Red Winter Wheat Tour was full of surprises for participants and led to a sliver of hope for producers statewide. On day three, the participants stopped at 70 fields, an increase from last year's day three total of 45 fields. The daily average was 48.9 bushels an acre, more than an 11 bushel increase from last year.

Vehicle accident blocks traffic

A traffic accident blocked traffic at Navajo Road and K-96 Friday morning in Great Bend. The accident involved a Chevrolet 1500 4x4 and a Toyota Corolla. Police report the driver of the Chevrolet truck failed to yield right of way at a stop sign and collided with the northbound Toyota. The Corolla sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene. The driver of the car was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital with possible injuries. Names of the drivers were unavailable.
