ELLINWOOD - The Memory Makers scrapbooking group will host a two-day scrapping event beginning today at noon at First Baptist Church, located at 503 A SE 110 Ave. in rural Ellinwood. The event will continue today until midnight and will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday, continuing to 9 p.m. Admission is free, but participants are asked to bring a snack to share, said Pam Hendricks with the church. No reservation is needed.

Recently, the Gallop Poll organization came out with its annual morality poll for America. This past weekend, Dr. Richard Land commented on the poll during his Richard Land Live program. I saw some interesting things in both and a need to return to what the Bible has to say.

Timothy Joseph Miller, 72, died June 7 in Great Bend, following a brief struggle with cancer. He was born Jan. 24, 1940, at El Dorado, the son of Cyril W. "Cy" and Frances Cecelia (Muth) Miller. He was a 1957 graduate of Great Bend High School. He married Marilyn Fern Betts at Great Bend. They later divorced. He married Loretta K. Bradshaw on May 25, 1985, at Eureka Springs, Ark. LARNED - Troy Dean Davis, 43, passed away Jan. 16, 2015, at his home in Larned. He was born Jan. 3, 1972, in Great Bend, the son of Jerrold Dale and Sheryl Lynn Suchy Davis. A lifetime area resident, he was a service technician at Harper Camper Land in Great Bend.
It has been a hectic nine days for the Barton Community College men's basketball team. Nine days that including five games, three suspensions, two ranked opponents and one rival. Oh, yeah, and four wins.
It has been a rugged five days for the Barton Community College women's basketball team. About as tough a 5-day stretch as any team in the nation will see this season. It came to a conclusion Wednesday night with a loss Hutchinson, 73-45 at the Barton Gym.
After the tragic shooting at a provocative magazine in Paris last week, I pointed out that given the foreign policy positions of France we must consider blowback as a factor. Those who do not understand blowback made the ridiculous claim that I was excusing the attack or even blaming the victims. Not at all, as I abhor the initiation of force. The police blaming victims when they search for the motive of a criminal.
