LARNED - Darlene Zetta Fox, 81, passed away July 10 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born May 2, 1931, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Gilbert Martin and Lena Margaret Bortz Johnson. On Oct. 28, 1950, she married Leo Joseph Fox at Larned. He died Jan. 2, 2001. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and a sales representative for Stanley Home Products.
ELLINWOOD - Wilbert V. Sanko, 83, died July 12 at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. He was born Oct. 12, 1928, at Spearville, the son of Edward and Mary Shinstock Sanko. He married Imogene M. Hayden on Sept. 8, 1951, at the Cathedral in Dodge City. She died May 29, 2012. An Ellinwood resident for 58 years, he was a farmer, a mechanic at Ward Pivonka, Gaughn Motors, Knop Butane & Davis Childs Motors, all of Ellinwood.
Betty Lou Bangerter, 93, died July 11 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. Born Jan. 2, 1919, in Formosa, she was the daughter of Charles and Ona (Steichelman) Alderson. Betty moved to Hoisington in 1931 where she was the co-owner of Howard's Furniture until 1982. On Sept. 25, 1938, she married Howard Bangerter in Bushton. He preceded her in death. She moved to Great Bend in 1995. Betty enjoyed traveling with her husband in the RV, solving puzzles and sewing.
WICHITA - Sixteen high school students from the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City attended the fourth annual Summer Service Camp hosted by Newman University in June. The week-long camp is held to give students from schools in the Dodge City Diocese an opportunity to serve others while growing in faith and experiencing fellowship.

The Great Bend Panther bowling squads made an early departure from town on Saturday morning as they traveled to The Alley in Wichita for the 8 team Andover Tournament. In girls action it was sophomore Allie Brodrick who led the way with her team high 560 series. Following close behind was sophomore Kylynn Keeler with a 533 series, senior Abby Rose with a 515 series and senior Addie Soukup with a 514 series.
