As May turns into June, thoughts turn to the wheat crop. Anywhere you drive in Barton County, the wheat fields are waving in the wind. To me, this is a major reminder of how beautiful our great state is, and one of my favorite things to do in the spring and summer is watching the wheat grow and develop. But how well is our wheat doing? Come join us on June 6th at 6 p.m. for a 4-H wheat plot tour to hear more.
At the March 14 meeting of the Great Bend City Slickers 4-h Club there were five members, two leaders, eight parents and four guests present. The club took a donation to the Great Bend Humane Society. A demonstration and talk was given by Joshua Crawford.
On May 29, Treasurer Ron Estes will join the College Savings Plans Network (CSPN) and State Treasurers around the nation in celebrating "529 College Savings Day" to increase awareness among Kansas families about the importance of saving for their children's higher education expenses. Learning Quest, the Kansas 529 Education Savings Plan, will also be holding three drawings this year for three $1,000 Learning Quest 529 Education Savings Plan accounts for those who like the plan on Facebook and register. Drawings will be held for entries received by June 30, September 30, and December 31, 2013.
Bill Nicholson of Hoisington, was recently installed as Vice President of the Kansas Funeral Directors Association at the Tri-State Convention held May 5-8, at the Sheraton Overland Park and the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park.
