Hoisington Middle School scores in math relays

Hoisington Middle School 7th and 8th graders participated in the league math relays April 23 at Sacred Heart Middle School in Dodge City. There were four categories related to the Kansas Math standards. The 8th grade group consisting of Kylie Broeder, Ryan Broeder, Sienna Ludwig, Rylie Koster, Zade Sanders, and Jacob Warnken placed second in the overall competition. In the 7th grade event, Dewey Doze took third in the Algebra Portion and Vikki Donetz received a 2nd place finish in the Data Analysis. Gloria Hernandez presents Vegan Cooking

Gloria Hernandez's name is becoming synonymous with vegetarian cooking in Great Bend. After teaching classes at the Parent Resource Center and also the Great Bend Recreation Center she now is offering a one-day vegan vegetarian cooking class from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1 mile west of 10th and Patton in Great Bend.

Community Concert Features Paul McDermand on Steel Drum and Marimba

Not often does the Golden Belt Community Concert Association feature a steel drum and marimba percussionist in concert. In fact, this month's performer is the first. Paul McDermand, Caribbean/pop performer on steel drum and marimba, will present the association's first concert of 2015 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium, Lakin and Stone.

On Monday, the Barton County Sheriff's Office received calls from individuals in rural Great Bend and rural Pawnee Rock, both reporting attempted fraud via telephone scams.
