She graduated from Hoisington High School on May 18, 1928. She received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays College and began teaching for three years in a one-room school house in the Olmitz area. OLMITZ - Dorothy F. Schneider, 89, died March 31 at the Hays Medical Center. Born May 21, 1922, in Gove County, she was the daughter of Alexander and Walburga (Ziegler) Schwarzenberger. She graduated from Quinter High School in 1940. On May 11, 1954, she married Raymond A. Schneider in Collier. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2007. She moved to Hoisington in 2009 from her farm south of Olmitz. She worked as a teller in various banks over the years retiring from Farmers Bank and Trust in Albert.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Area Health Foundation will be hosting its first "Giving is Receiving" event. This year's fundraising event includes a donor drive, health fair, poker run, dinner, dance and raffle to be held from 10 a.m. to midnight on April 28. Proceeds will be used to help purchase a new telemetry unit for cardiac patients and many needed items for Ellinwood District Hospital and clinic.

HOISINGTON - Joyce M. Basye, 81, died Aug. 10 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center. She was born April 16, 1933 at Wichita, the daughter of Lee and Alberta (Miller) Mathews.
Elenora "Nora" Schmidt, 83, died Aug. 11 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. Born Aug. 27, 1930, at Liebenthal, she was the daughter of Alex and Mary (Doerfler) Pfeifer.
Ivan "Stanley" Freeman, 94, died Aug. 9 at Great Bend Health And Rehabilitation Center. Born Dec. 26, 1919, at Coats, he was the son of Ivan A. and Gertrude M. (Stimits) Freeman. He married Betty B. Eastes Jan. 4, 1948, at Pratt. She died August 31, 2012.
Gordon Jones, 88, a longtime resident of Great Bend, passed away Aug. 10.
ELLINWOOD - Mike Strobl, 78, died on Aug. 8 at his home in Ellinwood.
OBERLIN - DeeAnna E. Krizek, 77, died Aug. 9 at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin. Born April 7, 1937, in Oberlin, she was the daughter of Gordon and Esther (Leitner) Rathbun. In 1955 she graduated from Decatur Community High School. On Aug. 4, 1957, she married Bennie Krizek in Oberlin. Living on the Krizek family farm north of Jennings, she was a homemaker.

A rural Barton County man contacted the Barton County Sheriff's Office on Saturday to report an attempted fraud. He said he received a text that his Visa account had been "locked." He was given a number to call and was asked for secure information, which he did not provide. He also called his financial institution and was told nothing was wrong with his card.
