Macksville Bikes & Blues Rally set

MACKSVILLE - The Christian Motorcyclists Association invites everyone to meet in the City Park in Macksville on May 4, for the fourth annual Macksville Bikes & Blues Rally. The event starts at noon with a prayer and the CMA's "Run for the Son" ride. There will be food venders and camping available in the park.

What is the solution?

I saw a clip of the Morning Joe Show where they were talking about the things needed to control the shootings that have been going on. They talked about gun control, psychological testing and the violence coming out of Hollywood. A few days before, I watched another clip of an NRA supporter saying that gun control just amounts to people control.

Forgery suspect arrested

Great Bend Police have arrested a Hoisington man suspected of multiple check forgeries. Joshua Steven Greer was booked into the Barton County Jail Tuesday on a warrant for 21 counts of forgery and 23 counts of theft by deception, with bond set at $10,000. Greer was also booked on a Barton County warrant for theft, with bond set at $2,500.

Snow sculpture winners

Winners of this year's Great Bend Recreation Commission Snow Sculpture Contest have been chosen. Program Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick said first place goes to the John Kaba family, who submitted three sculptures: A green faced "Chihuahua Eater," polar bear and cub, and a dragon. They win a $25 gift card donated by Walmart. Second place goes to Maci and Ashley Reifschneider, who win a $15 gift card.

​Clifton teens injured when Suburban slides off I-70

Eight people were injured Wednesday when two vehicles collided in Russell County. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban carrying students from Clifton-Clyde High School lost control on the hail-covered road at 2:45 p.m. on Interstate 70, five miles east of Russell. The Suburban then crossed the median, sliding sideways. The driver's side of the Suburban hit the front of an Oldsmobile Alero. The Suburban then rolled on to its top and came to rest on the right shoulder.

Kans for Kids golf tournament slated

Both current and future Barton County children diagnosed with cancer will benefit from the fifth annual Spring Kans for Kids Golf Tournament to be held Friday, May 10, at The Club at StoneRidge in Great Bend. There will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The four-person team fee includes a cart and meal. A raffle and auction will be held following golf.

W. Max Howard 1930 - 2013

LARNED - W. Max Howard, 82, died April 17 at Country Place Senior Living in Larned. Born July 28, 1930 in Jewell County, he was the son of Wilbur Frank and Elise Parson Howard Murphy. A lifetime area resident, he was the owner and operator of the Best Western Motel in Larned. On March 8, 1949, he married Faith Kimbrough in Hiawatha. She died on Dec. 13, 1981. On Oct. 30, 1982, He married Alice Larson in Salina. She survives.
