​‘Routine’ stop ends in chase; stolen truck recovered

A stolen vehicle was recovered Monday and an area man arrested after a brief manhunt in southeast Barton County, the Barton County Sheriff's Office reports.

​Head-on collision kills one; second driver recovering

A head-on collision occurred at 9:10 p.m. Thursday in Rice County, 2.1 miles east of Lyons on U.S. 56. Kansas Highway Patrol reports Luis Gonzales, 55, died after the 1997 Dodge passenger car he was driving crossed the center line, colliding with a 1998 Ford pickup driven by Jimmy M. Bound, 65, Lyons. Bound was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

​Russell man recovering after hitting deer with motorcycle

A Russell man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita on Sunday after hitting a deer with a motorcycle in Barton County, about nine miles northwest of Hoisington on U.S. 281.

Justin J. Urban 1935 - 2012

LACROSSE - Justin J. Urban, 77, died Sept. 4 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. Born Jan. 12, 1935, in Bison, he was the son of Wendelin and Rose Mary (Leiker) Urban. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. Attaining his GED from Barton County Community College in 1980, he was a plumber for Marlette Coach Company in Great Bend before his retirement. On May 8, 1976, he married Mary A. Pechanec at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken.

Adam David Andrulis, 5, died Sept. 1 in Lyons. He was born May 19, 2007 in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend he liked the Avengers, like to wrestle and dress up like a cowboy.

Leroy Eugene Borron 1927 — 2012

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Leroy E. Borron, 84, former Great Bend resident, died at his home with family at his side on July 21. Born Sept. 11, 1927 in Jennings, Okla., he was the son of Everett and Lucille (Harp) Borron. He attended school in Hoisington. On Aug. 15, 1950, he married Dorothy Ann Deines of Hoisington, in Hoisington. They had four children. He worked in the oil production industry, sold real estate and was an insurance salesman for Farmers Insurance. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family at the lake.
