USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools

The following meals will be served April 2 through April 6. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Gladys Apel 80th

Gladys Apel will celebrate her 80th birthday with a Come-and-Go reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 7 at the Great Bend Recreation Center, 1214 Stone. Hosts for the event will be her husband Norman; her children Mike Price from Haysville, Eddie and Terry Price from Great Bend, Bob Price from Cushing, Okla., and Sherri Cox of Derby; and her step-children Gerilyn Hoard and David Apel, both of Salina, Briana Ernst of Henderson, Nev., and Amy Astrab of Derby.

Troy Dean Davis 1972 - 2015

LARNED - Troy Dean Davis, 43, passed away Jan. 16, 2015, at his home in Larned. He was born Jan. 3, 1972, in Great Bend, the son of Jerrold Dale and Sheryl Lynn Suchy Davis. A lifetime area resident, he was a service technician at Harper Camper Land in Great Bend.

It has been a rugged five days for the Barton Community College women's basketball team. About as tough a 5-day stretch as any team in the nation will see this season. It came to a conclusion Wednesday night with a loss Hutchinson, 73-45 at the Barton Gym.

Lessons from Paris

After the tragic shooting at a provocative magazine in Paris last week, I pointed out that given the foreign policy positions of France we must consider blowback as a factor. Those who do not understand blowback made the ridiculous claim that I was excusing the attack or even blaming the victims. Not at all, as I abhor the initiation of force. The police blaming victims when they search for the motive of a criminal.
