JoAnn (Frank) Herrman 1927 - 2012

JoAnn (Frank) Herrman, 84, died on Sept. 24 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Dec. 17, 1927 in Olpe, she was the daughter of Roy Emmitt Langley and Jennie Lee Mayes. In 1945 she graduated from Emporia High School. In 1950, she married Duane Frank. He died in 1972. She then married Julius Peter Herrman in 1983. He died in 1999. A resident of Great Bend since 1973, formerly of Topeka, she was a Santa Fe Railroad train router in Topeka, a clerk at Gibson Hallmark and County Treasurer, both at Great Bend.

Man injured in oilfield

Aaron Owen, 27, was flown to a Wichita hospital via air ambulance after an oilfield accident Monday morning. Owen was working at an oilwell pulling unit two miles west of Susank and 1.25 miles north (at NW 200 Road and NW 20 Ave.) when a pipe fell out of an elevator and landed on top of his head. He was conscious and suffering from a laceration on the side of his head when the accident was reported at 10 a.m.

​BCC trustees to act on hardware licenses

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will approve new licenses for the hardware that runs the college Student Information System when it meets at 4 p.m. Thursday in room F-30, the Seminar Room of the Fine Arts Building. Other items on the agenda are a monitoring report on "Essential Skills" and approval of new personnel.
