I have been watching the Bottoms early in the morning and late in the afternoon. The mid-day heat is oppressive, and most critters and birds try to avoid that uncomfortable part of the day by resting in the shade. The rain last Monday was a very welcome relief.

Wondra files for reelection as treasurer

Barton County Treasurer Kevin Wondra has filed for reelection to a second full term as County Treasurer. Wondra was first elected to the office in October 2007 by the Republican Precinct committee to complete the term of the retired Jan Karlin. He then won election to a full term in November 2008.

CHASE - Katharine Kay Brady, 70, died May 9, 2015, at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. She was born Dec. 27, 1944, at Lyons, the daughter of Willis and Frances Haas White. She graduated from Chase High School in 1962. She was married to Melvin Brady. He preceded her in death. A longtime Chase resident, she was a homemaker and CNA at the Ellinwood Hospital.

Playground report on Rec agenda

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will hear a report from the playground advisory committee when it meets at 4 p.m. Monday at the Carl Soden Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St. The board will also discuss goals for the coming year.
