PRINCETON, Mo. – Waylon Dean Wages, 33, son of Gary L. and Diane (Russett) Wages, was born in Unionville, Mo. on July 12, 1977, and passed away on April 9 near Modena, Mo.

KANSAS CITY - Donald E. McCosh, 77, died March 27. Born Nov. 14, 1933 in Traer, he was the son of Earl Francis McCosh and Zelma Fagan McCosh. He was a 1951 graduate of Great Bend High School and then attended Fort Hays State University. After graduating from FHSU in 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for two years in the Intelligence Corps. After his honorable discharge, he continued service in the U.S. Army Reserves until Nov. 28, 1961. In 1953 he married Beverly Ann Brown. They later divorced.
James E. "Pappy" Bell, 82, died April 10 at his home surrounded by his loving family in Great Bend. He was born May 18, 1928, at Peabody, the son of Jesse M. and Anna (Swift) Bell. He married Grace Ann Smith June 15, 1952, at Great Bend. He worked for Petro-log and Tomlinson Oil Company until his retirement in 1989. He had been a Great Bend resident for 60 years, coming from eastern Kansas. He was a loving husband, father, and brother and could always be found in his garage working on cars. Charles F. "Chuck" Edwards, 96, died April 9 at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend. Born Jan. 13, 1915 at Washington, D.C., he was the son of Charles Frederick and Mary (Faunce) Edwards. In 1936 he graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a degree in political science. A resident of Great Bend since 1957, coming from Garden City, he was retired as vice-president for Central Telephone and Utility. He was an avid golfer and trap shooter. He loved reading, taking a special interest in history and political science.
Six local elementary schools and one middle school received donations from First Kansas Bank of Hoisington, Great Bend and Claflin. Park, Eisenhower, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Riley Elementary Schools, all of Great Bend, Claflin Elementary, and Hoisington Middle School each got a 13 Colony Quarter Collection last week.

Barton Community College's BCC Theater will present its spring production, Christopher Durang's "Baby with the Bathwater," Friday and Saturday on the stage of Barton's Fine Arts Auditorium. The production starts at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Tickets will be available to the general public for $5 at the door. Students will be admitted free.

ELLINWOOD - Eunice E. Harrelson, 75, died April 5 at her home in Independence, La. She was born Feb. 24, 1936, at Tanga Pahoa, La., the daughter of Henry Devoe Spillman and Ada Belle Jenkins. She married Bobbie Glen Harrelson on Nov. 23, 1966, in New Orleans, La. He died July 13, 2010. A resident of Baptist and Independence, La., for the past 16 years, she had also lived in Valley Center, Kan., for 36 years.
Local students from Holy Family School recently gained the opportunity to demonstrate their public speaking skills and take pride in personal accomplishments. On Monday, April 11, the students took part in a speech contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America, a national provider of fraternal financial services and programs.

ELLINWOOD - A benefit fundraiser poker tournament will be held for 11-year-old Kadin White, who is suffering from acute lympoblastic leukemia, beginning at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Ellinwood American Legion, 117 N. Santa Fe. White also has Down Syndrome and has an infection. He is in Wesley Medial Center in Wichita.

The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation is currently seeking applicants for their 2014 healthcare career scholarships. Each year the Foundation desires to present several individuals with scholarships. Scholarship amount varies with the merits of the application and funds available from the endowments. The four scholarships to be awarded are: Jonathan Witt Scholarship, Sadie Stalcup Scholarship, Verda Lane Nursing Scholarship and Dr. Robert Moore Scholarship. Application deadline for all scholarships is April 1, 2014.
