LARNED - Larned Middle School student Macy Haas has qualified for the 2012 Sunflower Spelling Bee. Haas, a fifth-grader, will compete in Sunflower Spelling Bee scheduled March 17 at the Barton Community College fine arts auditorium.

OVERLAND PARK - Herb "Herbo" Freidenberger, 92, formerly of Hutchinson and Dunedin, Fla., passed away on Jan. 31, 2012 in Overland Park. Born on July 3, 1919, in Otis, he was the son of Sophie (Kindsvater) and George Freidenberger. On June 18, 1939, he married Marguerite Mendenhall in Hutchinson. She died Feb. 19, 2005. Herb retired in 1981, after a 43-year career from the Dillon Companies. After retiring to Florida, Herb attended Clown School and dedicated the next 25 years to making people laugh and smile as "Herbo" the Clown.
