A Great Bend man was transported to a Wichita hospital Thursday afternoon after he was injured in a work-related accident at Great Bend Industries, the Great Bend Fire Department reported.
Monday, Sept. 12, the TLC Discoveries kids made posters for the two fire stations thanking them for all they do and being our hometown Hero's. This idea came from Lexie Brack after watching all of the 9/11 shows on TV on Sunday. She wanted to do something for our firemen to thank them. So the kids all signed the posters and she took a car load to deliver them. They had a good time talking to the men and thanking them.
"Let's Move!"a national organization with the initiative to decrease childhood obesity is planning a day this month to raise national awareness and to get America active, at least for one day. "Let's Move Day" is being held across America on Sept. 25. Dr. Bell Razafindrabe, of The Spine Clinic, and the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Church, are encouraging the community to get involved in the day with free activities for all ages.
U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) announced today that he is accepting applications for nominations to the United States Service Academies. The academies include the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Those selected will enter the academies in June 2012.

Many people would balk at the prospect of a half dozen teenaged boys roaming about under their roof. Just the logistical challenge of feeding them would test the resolve of most. When it comes to politics, liberals and conservatives can't agree on what the problems are much less solutions. We can blame the politicians for not making progress on the big issues of our time, but until Americans share a common truth about what those issues are we won't move an inch.

So what can be realistically be done to deal with pesticide resistance once it happens? When pests develop resistance to pesticides, it is a difficult challenge but in most cases not an impossible one. The key to the effectiveness of these management practices include cost, time, markets and climate. Also remember we are speaking about resistance developing in insects and diseases, not just weeds.
