Spring Animal Ritual is next Stop ‘N Learn topic

The spring mating rituals of Kansas wildlife will be the topic at the next Stop 'N Learn, from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St. Eric Giesing, director of education at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, will have information on greater prairie chickens, turkeys and kildeer. Drum Circle meeting moves to The Center

The Drum Circle, facilitated by John Makings, will hold its second meeting from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at The Center, 5815 Broadway Ave., Great Bend. This is a new location for the group. Elsie Mae Pickerill 1942 - 2012

Elsie Mae Pickerill, 69, passed away at the Minneola Long Term Care Center in Minneola on Monday afternoon, Feb. 13. Elsie was born on Sept. 12, 1942, in Ellsworth to John and Mildred (Mills) Ploutz. She graduated from Ellsworth High School. On Sept. 5, 1964, she was united in marriage to Gary Pickerill in Great Bend, where the couple made their home. One of Elsie's favorite activities was watching KU basketball.

Extension Programs Focus on Health and Wellness

It is fairly common that my educational programs and workshops emphasize a common theme of health and wellness. The annual Walk Kansas program is just around the corner, so it is time to start rounding up your team members for that successful program. Packets are ready for team captains to pick up at our office and the Great Bend Recreation Commission. I also plan to deliver some packets to the recreation commissions in Hoisington and Ellinwood.

Great Bend High School Bowling results

On Thursday, the Great Bend Panthers hosted a triangular with Liberal and Holcomb. In girls action the Lady Panthers dominated the day by winning 10 of the 11 WAC points possible. Senior Addie Soukup was the high bowler for the Lady Panthers as she rolled a top series of 562. Sophomore McKenzy Black finished in 3rd place as she rolled a series of 504.
