Scouts to collect food at Labor Day Parade

The following well-balanced and nutritious Friendship Meals will be served for lunch at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Meals are served with milk; donations for coffee and tea are accepted.
Doug and Jacquie Disque will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a reception at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Bill and Lori Slater, 464 NE 20 Ave., in Great Bend. Hosts for the event will be Karla and Suresh Maharjan and Lori and Bill Slater.
This July the Barton County Conservation District received approval for funding under the Non-Point Source Pollution Management Plan. The programs approved for cost-share funding by the board of supervisors for this plan are plugging of abandoned water wells and upgrading failed sewage systems.
As of the first of July, anyone with access to cellular, Wi-Fi or Internet service could download free smartphone applications -- called "apps" -- that allow them to engage with Fort Hays State University, Nex-Tech and Nex-Tech Wireless from anywhere in the world.
The following meals will be served Aug. 29 through Sept. 2. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.
Ray and Donna Zimmerman of Great Bend announce the engagement of their daughter, Sara Dawn Zimmerman, to Larry Dennis Winegarner II, son of Linda Winegarner of Wichita. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Maxine Heueisen of Great Bend and the late Charles Heueisen, and Erma Zimmerman of Great Bend and the late Percy Zimmerman. The prospective groom is the grandson of the late Thomas and Lena Vogt.
Lydia Blehm will celebrate her 90th on Aug. 29 with a family gathering and meal. Celebrating with her will be her children and grandchildren, Harold and Delores Schneidewind, Craig and Linda Schneidewind; and grandchildren Steven Schneidewind, and Alva, Kim, Tristan, Morgan, Shana and Weston McHenry.
Rebecca Koochel and Dallas Guinn were united in marriage on Dec. 11 at St. Francis of Assasi Catholic Church in Wichita in a ceremony officiated by Father Michael Linnebur. Parents of the couple are Michael and Lois Koochel of Great Bend and Rex and Lisa Guinn of Stilwell, Okla. Grandparents of the bride are Florine Meister of Great Bend and the late Joe and Minnie Beck, the late Elwyn Koochel and the late John Meister. Grandparents of the groom are Renie Guinn of Stilwell, Okla., the late Kenneth Guinn and the late Elizabeth Tinsley.
TOPEKA – "Byways of Kansas" is the title of a new travel guide from the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the Kansas Department of Transportation.
