Harold (Doc) Stone 90th

Harold (Doc) Stone of Ellinwood will celebrate his 90th birthday with a card shower. He was born on Feb. 19, 1922, to Joshua and Georgia Stone in Cedar Vale. He served during World War II as a captain in the 7th Station Hospital as a dental officer. In August 1949 he came to Ellinwood to begin his dental practice. On June 22, 1953, he married Mary Lois Malone in Ellinwood. He retired from his dental practice in 1988. His children are Taylor and Yvonne Stone of Wichita, and Carol and Tim of Aurora, Colo. RSVP news

The Ellinwood Heritage Center and the Commission on Aging are long time partners of RSVP. The Ellinwood Heritage Senior Center was first conceived in 1981 by a group of concerned citizens of Ellinwood. Around that same time, the Bosse family decided they had no use for the building at 103 Main Street and donated the building for this use. Community donations of cash, building materials, and lots of hard work ensured a complete renovation of the building as well as the addition of a large kitchen area and a wheelchair ramp. VORP disbands

In March of 1996, Larry Hesed along with a board of eight people formed a 501c3 organization called the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program of Central Kansas. The organizations funding was initially started with a grant from the Showalter Foundation and the Dominican Sisters. Until 2010, the VORP program has been bringing victims and offenders together in a safe mediation setting to permit the offender to take responsibility for his or her actions, to make things as right as possible with the victim, and to be clear about future intentions. CPI employees attain ASPPA’s TGPC designation

Alex Cartwright, Colette Haskell and Sarah Scheideman of CPI Qualified Plan Consultants, Inc. (CPI) have recently passed all of the required exams to attain their TGPC (Tax-Exempt & Governmental Plan Consultant) designation through ASPPA (American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries). These exams include the Tax-Exempt Governmental Plan Administration & Plan Consultant (TGPC-1 & TGPC-2) exams.

USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools

The following meals will be served Feb. 13 through Feb. 17. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Wilborn participates in District Piano Festival

On Sunday, Feb. 5, Hannah Wilborn (sophomore) traveled to Fort Hays State University to participate in the District Piano Festival. Hannah received a I (one) rating on her piano solo. On Saturday, Feb. 18, Hannah will be traveling to Tabor College to perform at the State Piano Festival.

Central Plains High School FCCLA Soles4Souls shoe drive

Soles4Souls and Central Plains High School FCCLA will be collecting gently worn footwear for a person in need, whether they are victims of a natural disaster or subject to living in extreme poverty. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying in their closets. The charity can use each and every one of these pairs to make a tangible difference in someones life.
