COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Joseph "Joe" Vsetecka, 89, died Jan. 25 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was born on March 21, 1921, the son of Emil and Amelia (Zoboj) Vsetecka.
MARCOLA, Ore. - Carol Sue Wondra of Marcola, Ore., died Jan. 18 from a ruptured brain aneurysm at the age of 64. Born Nov. 15, 1946 in Port Huron, Mich., she was the daughter of Edward and Madeline (Graves) Hudy. On May 22, 1965, she married James Taylor in Port Huron, Mich. He died on April 9, 1990. She married Norbert Wondra in Reedsport, Ore. on April 11, 1996. In 1964 she graduated from Port Huron High School. She worked in various accounting positions retiring from International Paper in 1997.

The regular monthly meeting of the Welcome Inn Leisure Center Inc. was called to order by President Charles Wonsetler, February 2, 2011 at 12:50 p.m. In addition to Charles Wonsetler, the following board members were present: Jim Forrest, Treasurer; Betty Tauscher, Secretary and Roger Haberman, Reporter. Absent were Thelmarie Wilhite, Historian; Marylee Phinney, Vice President and Ernie Ashley, Financial Sec. . Also present were Amy Bauer, Mitchell Craft, Mary Beth Herrmann, Mona Marie Wysong, Bryon Stilts and Bobbie Sharrock.

Russell Linderer and Mindy Elliott of CPI Qualified Plan Consultants Inc. (CPI) have recently passed all of the required exams to attain their Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designation through the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries. These exams include the Retirement Plan Fundamentals (RPF-1 & RPF-2) exams, the Administrative and Qualification Issues of Retirement Plans (DC-1) exam and, the Administrative Issues of Defined Contribution Plans (DC-2) exam.
HOISINGTON - The Barton County Extension Council will host the 2011 Kansas State University Ag Profitability Conference on Feb. 16 at the Knights of Columbus in Hoisington. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A noon lunch will be served. HOISINGTON - Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington has named, Curt Colson, as its new president and chief executive officer. A come-and-go welcome reception will be held on Feb. 16 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Turnbull Safe Room. All are invited to come and meet Colson.
Traveling to several continents, Dr. John Cody has followed, studied and rendered in exquisite detail the giant silk moths. Christened the "Audubon of Moths" Dr. Cody will present "Night Beauties – The Giant Silk Moths" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center.
Christy Smith, 49, died Feb. 22 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born May 22, 1964 at Travis U.S. Air Force Base Hospital in Fairfield, Calif., she was the daughter of Wendell H. and Mary (Brocher) Smith. A Great Bend resident since 1971, Christy was employed as a residential home care provider for Rosewood Services. She enjoyed animals, movies, reading, and sharing her wonderful wit and sense of humor. She particularly enjoyed helping others, always identifying with those in need.
Maxine R. Heueisen, 80, died Feb. 23 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born April 23, 1933 in Stafford County, she was the daughter of Earl and Jesse (Ballinger) Carr. On Nov. 26, 1955, she married Charles Heueisen in Larned. He died on April 17, 1979. A resident of Great Bend since 1997, coming from Larned. She was employed in the admissions department at Larned State Hospital, previously employed as the activities director at the Great Bend Manor and served as a case worker for the Center For Counselling. She had also previously operated the Meals on Wheels program ...
MUNJOR - Mary Ann Gross, 74, died Feb. 22, at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Born Aug. 21, 1939, in Hays, she was the daughter of Ignatius and Irene (Werth) Koerner. On April 18, 1959, she married Wilbert Gross in Hays. She was a former licensed hairdresser and spent many years as a homemaker. She loved family gatherings with her children and grandchildren and the special trips she took with the love of her life, Wilbert.
Ellen Nadine Bittner, 81, died Feb. 23, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending with Morell Funeral Home in Larned.
